My Wealthy Affiliate May 2021 Update

My Wealthy Affiliate May 2021 Update

My Wealthy Affiliate Update in May 2021. I no longer use Wealthy Affiliate. In my Superseding Wealthy Affiliate with Domain Cost Club article of March 2021, I mentioned that I had “decided after over six years of consecutive Premium membership of Wealthy Affiliate to move my hosting needs over to the cPanel hosting provided by Domain Cost Club.”

Part of my reasoning

Here I explain part of my reasoning.

One, I have outgrown their standard affiliate marketing training

I think that their standard affiliate marketing training is now seriously outdated. It had not been seriously updated for some time with more up to date content. Changing the user interface a few times does not change the underlying content.

Making minor edits to content without adding more up to date content does not really change the underlying content. When people do courses, they expect the content to be up to date. Otherwise, why do the courses?

There is a lot of up to date quality related affiliate affiliate marketing material available for free on the internet. Here’s an example:

  • Brian Dean’s blog
Be sure to page down when you get there. I get nothing for pointing you to him. Of course, he hopes that you purchase some of his training. There is probability no need for you to take him up on his paid offers before your affiliate marketing activities are producing a good income for you. Use his free content to help get you there. Just saying. 🙂 🙂

Two, Webhosting costs

I had two websites hosted with them that cost me way less to host with my new webhost. My new webhost costs me less than a fifth of what Wealthy Affiliate was charging me.

True, I could host many more websites with Wealthy Affiliate but most affiliate marketers as far as I know have a small number of websites.

Here’s where you find more information about my new webhost:

  • Visit my new Webhost’s Hosting Page
I moved my websites over to the cPanel Hosting at Domain Cost Club at less than a fifth of the price I was paying for Wealthy Affiliate Premium Membership.
I find after a few months that this cPanel hosting is good enough for me. They do not have 24/7 hosting support. They do have email support during normal business hours. For me so far this has not been a problem as I have not needed the 24/7 hour support.
However if you need 24/7 support, have a look at BlueHost, another website host that has loads of choice, options and pricing. BlueHost’s cheaper offering are way more price competitive than Wealthy Affiliate if you are just looking for website hosting. However not as cheap as Domain’s Cost Club cPanel website hosting.
One thing to know is that different hosts seem to define Secure Managed WordPress Hosting in different ways and so have different offerings. It is not easy to compare them, as you can end up comparing “apples with oranges”.

Three, new Membership tier

Wealthy Affiliate added a new membership tier in October/November 2020. This costs way more per year than the existing Premium tier.

I cannot access all the Expert Live Online Classes (or associated recordings). Prior to adding that new membership tier, I could access all the Expert Live Online Classes (or associated recordings).

The new membership tier uses additional experts than before which is part of their reasoning for the new membership tier. I think Premium members should be limited to any fifty of these Expert Live Online Classes a year, from any experts (‘old’, ‘new’ or a mixture), not just the ‘old’ experts

The new Premium Plus membership tier allows a member to host up to fifty websites with them which is another benefit. However, I seriously doubt if more than a very small percentage of Premium Plus members would host this number of websites. Just saying. 🙂 🙂

Four, I think that Wealthy Affiliate are becoming greedy

I have a problem with their pricing strategy as it uses “all or nothing” type of thinking. I was no longer getting value in my opinion. And as the customer, it is my opinion that counts. 🙂 🙂

I don’t think many Premium members would have ten websites hosted with them. I don’t think many Premium Plus members would have fifty websites hosted with them.

Furthermore, I don’t think many Premium Plus members need Jaaxy Enterprise as Jaaxy Lite would be good enough for most. By the way, they price Jaaxy Enterprise at $99 per month and Jaaxy Lite at $19 a month. There is no way that I would fork out $99 a month for Jaaxy Enterprise. And I am sure many other people would have this exact same opinion.

However I am sure, that many Premium members would love to view the Expert Live Online Classes recordings that only Premium Plus members can now access. I think members should be provided with à la carte options so that they decide themselves what they truly want.

à la carte
In restaurants, à la carte is the practice of ordering individual dishes from a menu in a restaurant, as opposed to table d’hôte, where a set menu is offered. It is an early 19th century loan from French meaning “according to the menu”.

Five, I noticed other long standing members leaving

Wealthy Affiliate enables members to ask for help via various online Wealthy Affiliate tools. The answers come from other members. The quality of the answers varied from “really good” to “really poor”. members. Other members see these questions and answers.

I noticed that some really helpful long standing members answering these questions with really good answers. I also noticed over time, many of them actually dropping out of Wealthy Affiliate, or at least, no longer answering these type of questions.

For too many of them, I was able to determine that they are no longer Premium members or Premium Plus members.

Packages containing things you do not really want

They have three tiers of membership: Starter, Premium and Premium Plus (also called Premium Plus+). Each tier consists of a number of items, some of which you may not purchase if they were sold separately.

However when sold as part of an overall package they appear to be good value. Even if you would not purchase those separate components if sold separately.

Some items have a quantity associated with them. No way in my opinion, do more than a very small percentage of Premium Plus members host fifty websites with Wealthy Affiliate.

It is very well saying that they host up to ten secure Managed WordPress websites for you on their Premium membership, however most people as far as I know that purchase website hosting purchase for one or two or maybe even three websites.

During late 2020 they added an additional membership class called Premium Plus which costs almost $1,000 per year. They include a number of components which makes the offer seem great. And it probably is, if you would purchase all of these components separately.

The problem in my opinion is that they do not allow you to purchase those separate components separately. It is everything or nothing.

It is the same idea with their membership class of Premium. It costs almost $500 per year. This also has a number of components which makes the offer seem great. And it probably is, if you would purchase all of these components separately. The problem in my opinion is that they do not allow you to purchase those separate components separately.

Hosting at Wealthy Affiliate

Part of Premium Plus membership is that they host up to fifty Secure Managed WordPress websites. Part of Premium membership is that they host up to ten Secure Managed WordPress websites.

Their hosting does have 24/7 online ticket support and they are very responsive. They also do automatic backups automatically every day. Many hosts do not. So this is good. However they only keep the last backup. Tough luck if you need to restore from a backup from 7 days ago.

If I had ten websites or fifty websites this Secure Managed WordPress Hosting is good value. However I have nowhere near this number. Nor do I believe do many other people needing website hosting.

However I doubt if a small percentage of Premium members or Premium Plus members would have more than two or three websites at any one point in time. Therefore the additional unused hosting is a wasted expense.

Keyword Research Tool

Part of Premium Plus membership is that you can use the Enterprise version of their Keyword Research Tool. This normally costs $1,188 per year. I personally doubt very much if more than a very small percentage of their Premium Plus members would purchase this as a separate standalone purchase. I know I would not.

Part of Premium membership is that you can use the Lite version of their Keyword Research Tool. This normally costs $288 per year. Again I personally doubt very much if more than a very small percentage of their Premium members would purchase this as a separate standalone purchase. I know I would not.

Expert Live Online Classes

Premium members have access to expert live online classes. They do about fifty of these a year. They record these and Premium members have access to all of these “Premium only” recordings.

Over time, some content is covered or mentioned in multiple classes. This happens too much in my opinion.

Some of the content is not strictly “affiliate marketing” related. For example, become a SEO expert and offer your SEO services to businesses in your local area.

Premium Plus members have access to additional expert live online classes. They do about two hundred of these a year. They record these and Premium Plus members have access to all of these “Premium Plus only” recordings. Premium Plus members also have access to all of the “Premium only” recordings as well.

If you are a Premium member and want to access a Premium Plus recording, you can not even if you never accessed any of the Premium recordings. I think this is a real shame. I can’t comment on how good the “Premium Plus” recordings are as I never viewed any of them.

By the way, you can’t download those recordings. To access them, you need to be a Premium Member or Premium Plus Member right now to access the recordings that are applicable to your current membership level.

In Closing …

Any links on this website pointing to the Wealthy Affiliate website should now be pointed to this article.

However, if you want to visit Wealthy Affiliate, here are some links:

  • Sign up for the Wealthy Affiliate Free Starter Package
I rate this as 10/10 as this is free and is pretty good. However some content in this in my opinion is outdated. They will try to convince you to upgrade to a paid version. Only upgrade if you truly want to. As I have already mentioned above, there is a lot of up to date quality related affiliate affiliate marketing material available for free on the internet.
  • Learn more about Wealthy Affiliate’s Managed WordPress Hosting
This includes 24/7/365 ticket support which is pretty good and very responsive. As I have already mentioned above, not everyone requires hosting for ten websites. It may be a good price for 10 websites, but for one or two websites it is pretty expensive, even if it is Managed WordPress hosting with responsive 24/7/365 ticket support.
  • Build a Free Website on SiteRubix
SiteRubix is Wealthy Affiliate’s Managed WordPress Hosting Platform. As you would expect, the website you build on the free version has:

    1. Limited WordPress functionally
    2. Limited WordPress Themes you can use (One of about a dozen or two)
    3. Limited WordPress Plugins you can use (They include at most a half dozen with your initial install. You can’t download additional WordPress plugins if you want to use additional plugins)
    4. Limited amount of time that they will host the website for you

You are effectively forced to upgrade to get normal WordPress functionally. Wealthy Affiliate’s Premium membership is very expensive if you only require hosting for one or two websites.
