Heads Up: I am no longer a fan of Wealthy Affiliate. I explain part of my reasoning here, here, here, here, here and here. There are alternatives. The content below may not fully reflect my current opinion of Wealthy Affiliate.

My Wealthy Affiliate May 2021 Update

My Wealthy Affiliate May 2021 Update

My Wealthy Affiliate Update in May 2021. In my Superseding Wealthy Affiliate with Domain Cost Club note of March 2021, I indicated that I had moved my website hosting from Wealthy Affiliate hosting to Domain Cost Club cPanel hosting.

Here I wanted to explain my reasoning:

One, I have outgrown their standard affiliate marketing training

I think that their standard affiliate marketing training is now seriously outdated. It had not been seriously updated for some time with more up to date content. Changing the user interface a few times does not change the underlying content.

Making minor edits to content without adding more up to date content does not really change the underlying content. When people do courses, they expect the content to be up to date. Otherwise, why do the courses?

There is a lot of up to date quality related affiliate marketing material available for free on the internet. I do not advise spending money for affiliate marketing materials. There is truly a lot of material out there in the internet. Just use your search engine of choice and browse to your heart’s desire.

Two, Webhosting costs

I had two websites hosted with them that cost me way less to host with my new webhost. My new webhost costs me less than a fifth of what Wealthy Affiliate was charging me.

True, I could host many more websites with Wealthy Affiliate but most affiliate marketers as far as I know have a small number of websites. It does take time and effort to maintain one website on an ongoing basis.

I moved my websites over to the cPanel Hosting at Domain Cost Club (I may earn if you buy at that link) at less than a fifth of the price I was paying for Wealthy Affiliate Premium Membership.

I find after a few months that this cPanel hosting is good enough for me. They do not have 24/7 hosting support. They do have email support during normal business hours. For me so far this has not been a problem as I have not needed the 24/7 hour support.

However if you need 24/7 support, have a look at BlueHost (I may earn if you buy at that link), another website host that has loads of choice, options and pricing.

BlueHost’s cheaper offering are way more price competitive than Wealthy Affiliate if you are just looking for website hosting. However not as cheap as Domain’s Cost Club cPanel website hosting.

One thing to know is that different hosts seem to define Secure Managed WordPress Hosting in different ways and so have different offerings. It is not easy to compare them, as you can end up comparing “apples with oranges”.

Three, new Membership tier

Wealthy Affiliate added a new membership tier in October/November 2020. This costs way more per year than the existing Premium tier.

I cannot access all the Expert Live Online Classes (or associated recordings). Prior to adding that new membership tier, I could access all the Expert Live Online Classes (or associated recordings).

The new membership tier uses additional experts than before which is part of their reasoning for the new membership tier. I think Premium members should be limited to any fifty of these Expert Live Online Classes a year, from any combination of experts. I also think that the experts should be able to show current applicable success in any affiliate marketing field outside of Wealthy Affiliate and associated Wealthy Affiliate websites before they are deemed as experts.

The new Premium Plus membership tier allows a member to host up to fifty websites with them which is another benefit. However, I seriously doubt if more than a very small percentage of Premium Plus members would host this nu3ber of websites. Just saying. 🙂 🙂

Four, I think that Wealthy Affiliate are becoming greedy

I have a problem with their pricing strategy as it uses “all or nothing” type of thinking. I was no longer getting value in my opinion. And as the paying customer, it is my opinion that counts. 🙂 🙂

I don’t think many Premium members would have ten websites hosted with them. I don’t think many Premium Plus members would have fifty websites hosted with them.

Furthermore, I don’t think many Premium Plus members need Jaaxy Enterprise as Jaaxy Lite would be good enough for most. By the way, they price Jaaxy Enterprise at $99 per month and Jaaxy Lite at $19 a month. There is no way that I would fork out $99 a month for Jaaxy Enterprise. And I am sure many other people would have this exact same opinion.

However I am sure, that many Premium members would love to view the Expert Live Online Classes recordings that only Premium Plus members can now access. I think members should be provided with à la carte options so that they decide themselves what they truly want.

à la carte
In restaurants, à la carte is the practice of ordering individual dishes from a menu in a restaurant, as opposed to table d’hôte, where a set menu is offered. It is an early 19th century loan from French meaning “according to the menu”.

Five, I noticed other long standing members leaving

Wealthy Affiliate enables members to ask for help via various online Wealthy Affiliate tools. The answers come from other members. The quality of the answers varied from “really good” to “really poor”.

I noticed that some really helpful long standing members answering these questions with really good answers. I also noticed over time, many of them actually dropping out of Wealthy Affiliate, or at least, no longer answering these type of questions.

For too many of them, I was able to determine that they are no longer Premium members or Premium Plus members.

Six, it turns out that Starter members are treated better than Ex-Premium members

It took me a while to find out and confirm that in my opinion, Wealthy Affiliate treat Starter members better than Ex-Premium members. It is not possible to downgrade from Premium to Starter. I explain how I found out this “secret” information in way more detail here.

Seven, packages containing things you do not really want or need

They have three tiers of membership: Starter, Premium and Premium Plus (also called Premium Plus+). Each tier consists of a number of items, some of which you may not purchase if they were sold separately.

However when sold as part of an overall package they appear to be good value. Even if you would not purchase those separate components if sold separately.

Some items have a quantity associated with them. No way in my opinion, do more than a very small percentage of Premium Plus members host fifty websites with Wealthy Affiliate.

It is very well saying that they host up to ten secure Managed WordPress websites for you on their Premium membership, however most people as far as I know that purchase website hosting purchase for one or two or maybe even three websites.

During late 2020 they added an additional membership class called Premium Plus which costs almost $1,000 per year. They include a number of components which makes the offer seem great. And it probably is, if you would purchase all of these components separately.

The problem in my opinion is that they do not allow you to purchase those separate components separately. It is everything or nothing.

It is the same idea with their membership class of Premium. It costs almost $500 per year. This also has a number of components which makes the offer seem great. And it probably is, if you would purchase all of these components separately. The problem in my opinion is that they do not allow you to purchase those separate components separately.

Eight, hosting packages at Wealthy Affiliate (Who Really Needs Ten or Fifty Websites Hosted?)

Part of Premium Plus membership is that they host up to fifty Secure Managed WordPress websites. Part of Premium membership is that they host up to ten Secure Managed WordPress websites.

Their hosting does have 24/7 online ticket support and they are very responsive. They also do automatic backups automatically every day. Many hosts do not. So this is good. However they only keep the last backup. Tough luck if you need to restore from a backup from 7 days ago.

If I had ten websites or fifty websites this Secure Managed WordPress Hosting is good value. However I have nowhere near this number. Nor do I believe do many other people needing website hosting.

However I doubt if a small percentage of Premium members or Premium Plus members would have more than two or three websites at any one point in time. Therefore the additional unused hosting is a wasted expense.

Nine, Keyword Research Tool (Who Really Needs The Enterprise Edition of their Keyword Research Tool?)

Part of Premium Plus membership is that you can use the Enterprise version of their Keyword Research Tool. This normally costs $1,188 per year. I personally doubt very much if more than a very small percentage of their Premium Plus members would purchase this as a separate standalone purchase. I know I would not.

Part of Premium membership is that you can use the Lite version of their Keyword Research Tool. This normally costs $288 per year. Again I personally doubt very much if more than a very small percentage of their Premium members would purchase this as a separate standalone purchase. I know I would not.

Ten, Expert Live Online Classes (Have These Experts Achieved Current Related Outside Success?)

Premium members have access to expert live online classes. They do about fifty of these a year. They record these and Premium members have access to all of these “Premium only” recordings.

Over time, some content is covered or mentioned in multiple classes. This happens too much in my opinion.

Some of the content is not strictly “affiliate marketing” related. For example, become a SEO expert and offer your SEO services to businesses in your local area.

Premium Plus members have access to additional expert live online classes. They do about two hundred of these a year. They record these and Premium Plus members have access to all of these “Premium Plus only” recordings. Premium Plus members also have access to all of the “Premium only” recordings as well.

If you are a Premium member and want to access a Premium Plus recording, you can not even if you never accessed any of the Premium recordings. I think this is a real shame. I can’t comment on how good the “Premium Plus” recordings are as I never viewed any of them.

By the way, you can’t download those recordings. To access them, you need to be a Premium Member or Premium Plus Member right now to access the recordings that are applicable to your current membership level.

Looking for Affiliate Marketing Training?

When looking for affiliate marketing training, look for people who are currently successful doing this who are teaching their current proven successful approaches and who are not teaching outdated or ineffective appoaches. Look for proof of this recent success from independent well-known trustworthy sources.

If you are looking for affiliate marketing training I do suggest that you look at a number of companies in the teaching affiliate marketing space. Funny enough all the ones I started following recently also have active YouTube channels.

Most of them also have courses which may hit the sweat spot for you. Some of these courses are not cheap so you do need to do a lot of due diligence yourself to be sure that they actually fulfill your needs.

For the moment anyway I am reading their blogs and following them on YouTube. I have already subsribed to their email newsletters. Of course, if you decide to buy anything from those emails be sure to do your own due diligence as well.

I am finding that this approach is working for me. It may also work for you.

Here is my current list as in September 2021.

These are not affiliate links. I do not earn anything if you purchase at these websites.

I think if you are interested in affiliate marketing, you should get an overall view provided by different people who are currently doing affiliate marketing today before spending money on affiliate marketing training if you ever do. If you ever go ahead and spend money with them, be sure to do your own due diligence as well.

Here’s my current list in no particular order as in September 2021:

Income School

Their website and YouTube channel are full of useful information. Their videos are entertaining and full of good information. Their information is based on their real world recent experiences doing affiliate marketing. Their approaches that I am aware off make sense to me.

They change their recommendations and approaches over time in response to the changing world. They do testing and experimentation on their own websites. They regularly start off new websites from scratch.

For instance, they used to recommend three different types of post along with recommended word counts. Since about May 2021 they now recommend two different types of posts along with recommended word counts. These recommendations are based on them doing different experiments on their own websites and what they recently found out. They do that on an ongoing basis. They also recently changed their keywork research process which they call search analyis.

Authority Hacker

Their website and YouTube channel are full of useful information. Their videos are entertaining and full of good information. Their information is based on their real world recent experiences in building authority websites.Their approaches that I am aware off make sense to me.

They are data driven and scientific driven. They recommend using a $99 a month keyword research tool in their approach. They don’t earn commissions from that recommendation. In their eyes, that happens to be the best tool for the job. Their idea is to be very smart about deciding what to do (or not do) based in part on figures that this tool provides.

They change their recommendations and approaches over time in response to the changing world. They do testing and experimentation on their own websites. They regularly start off new websites from scratch.

Matt also usually blogs near the end of the month with a “News roundup of what is happening in the search engine world, in the google search world and in the SEO world in general”. That blog post usually contains useful timely information.

My Affiliate Marketing Training Conclusion

These are the people and organisations I feel comfortable sharing with you at the present time. I have learned not to be totally dependent on one source of affiliate marketing / search engine optimization information.

Some of them on occasion disagree with others in approach. So knowing that and maybe knowing when they have their opinion and maybe knowing why they have different opinions leads me to form my own opinion.

I hope that you find the above information useful in your affiliate marketing adventures. If you ever go ahead and spend money with any of them or with anyone else on the internet, be sure to do your own very detailed due diligence as well.

Here Are Some Recommendations

Thank you for reading this article. I hope you found it helpful. Here are some recommendations that I hope you’ll also find helpful. Of course, I may earn commissions if you buy using my links.

Domain Registrations, Renewals and Transfers

I use Domain Cost Club for domain registrations, renewals and transfers. I been using them now for over six years. I find that they do the job and do it very cost effectively. You can read my review of them by clicking here.

WordPress Hosting

A good WordPress Hosting webhost is Bluehost. They have a good interface and they have 24/7 support. I wrote a short post outlining some of the packages Bluehost have available. Click here to read that post.

If you are more technical and already have practical cPanel Hosting expertise, you might find the cPanel Hosting solution I currently use hits the sweet spot for you. Just know this solution does not have 24/7 support.

I wrote a post explaining my definition of managed WordPress hosting which includes a pricing comparison at the bottom of that article. You can read that by clicking here.
