AliveCor discontinued Kardia Band (KardiaBand) sometime between June 1, 2019 and August 31, 2019. Kardia Band (KardiaBand) used to work on compatible Apple Watches in conjunction with its partner app to capture EKG readings and give you a result of that reading.
This was originally a review of Kardia Band.
Then some time after I wrote that, Kardia Band (KardiaBand) was discontinued.
As I like to keep the content of my website current, I therefore deleted the content of my review of Kardia Band as that information is now clearly out of date. And I do not want to waste your time.
AliveCor, the business behind Kardia Band plan on supporting Kardia Band for the next while, they just no longer sell it.
If this is important to you, you may have to check that understanding yourself to determine the current situation.
AliveCor have changed CEOs over a period of time and different CEOs may have different plans regarding how they go forward.
FDA Cleared Kardia Band accessory for the Apple Watch
In 2017, the FDA cleared AliveCor’s Kardiaband ECG reader as the first medical device accessory for the Apple Watch. Kardia Band was discontinued after Apple added its own EKG functionally into the Apple Watch. No one was going to buy Kardia Band as Apple had its alternative solution already in place in the new Apple Watches that have built in EKG functionally.
Two Excellent Alternatives
As Kardia Band is discontinued, an alternative is to use the Kardia Mobile device or the Kardia Mobile 6L device. They are both available now. They are both personal EKG devices which allow you to take EKG readings and get instant results.
Both work in conjunction with its partner app which run of course on a compatible smartphone or compatible tablet.
Both the Kardia Mobile device and the Kardia Mobile 6L device are FDA cleared to detect certain heart rhythms as well as a normal heart rhythm which makes it extremely useful in certain situations.
Alternative 1: Kardia Mobile
I personally have been using Kardia Mobile since October 2016 on the advice of my cardiologist. I wrote a very detailed review from the point of view of an user advised to use one on the advice of my cardiologist which you can read here.
Alternative 2: Kardia Mobile 6L
The Kardia Mobile 6L became available in the middle of 2019. My cardiologist and I are of the opinion that it does not provide any extra data that would be helpful in my case, however that may not be the case for you. I wrote a review which you can read here.
