I think installing WordPress on your computer and using it that way is a very cumbersome approach. I much prefer to use a secure WordPress hosting provider. That way that provider does a lot of work behind the scenes that I do not have to do, which frees me up to do more important stuff.
Let’s get started.
Rather than spending my time downloading WordPress to my computer, than working on it on my computer, than when I am happy with the results, uploading it to my webhost, I adapt a different approach which works great for me, and which may work great for you too.
I use a webhost which specialize in hosting WordPress sites on the cloud. My webhost uses Amazon Web Services which allows great flexibility. As they specialize in hosting WordPress sites, their knowledge allows me to automatically capitalize on things that they learn and improve on a very regular basis.
For instance, I have hosted my website at different hosts down through the years, and with some of them, I was using WordPress the ‘old fashioned way’. It could take an excessive amount of time for my home page to show up when I browsed to it. Not so, with my current webhost. With my current webhost, testing I done on my machine to access my website on the internet is less than 3 seconds, with the fastest I noted as 1.6 seconds.
So what, I hear you ask?
Well it is very important that a website loads and is displayed to the end user as quickly as possible, so that their experience is as good as possible. I do not like it when I am at a website and it takes it ages for it to do things. And I assume that you also, do not like it if a website takes a while to load and display.
Another reason is SEO
Search engine optimization (SEO) is an important activity. The Search Engines, like Google and Bing also take website loads and display times into consideration, so having a faster site should help your SEO, assuming of course, that you are writing about things that people find useful. Content is still king, and it is still important that your content is unique, original and interesting.
Detailed ‘how do I’ online videos explain how to create and build your WordPress websites
My webhost also provide detailed ‘how do I’ online videos that explain and show you how to create and build your WordPress website, or indeed websites.
How to install WordPress and use it
Get your free starter account with my webhost. This will give you access to some great training, including some great online videos, that show you the whole process. With the free starter account, you can create and build 2 free websites. You will be able to do this learning and experimenting at your own pace when you want to, so you are not tied down to specific days and times that you should do this. I myself, do it whenever I get a chance, which is not always what I initially planned. 🙂
Just so you know, you can remain on the free starter account for as long as you like, you are not limited to 1 day, or 2 days, or 3 days or 30 days. Upgrading to the premium account is something you do when you want the extra benefits.
Where can I get a free starter account with my webhost?
With this approach, you need an account with my webhost, and the really good news, is that you can get a free starter account right now for free. There is no need to spend any money on this, until you are happy to do so. 🙂 🙂
Just so you know, I experienced this process myself, and outline that experience below. 🙂
My experience from free starter account to premium
Just so you know, I myself used the free starter account for a few weeks so that I could explore more the offerings that my WordPress webhost offered. After all, at the time, this was a new WordPress webhost from my point of view and was therefore new to me, maybe a bit like you now. So I had to learn more about my new WordPress webhost and their offerings before I spent one cent. You could also be in a similar boat and the great news is that the free starter account that my WordPress webhost offers allows this approach. You get to sample their offerings and if you like them, you can continue. The choice is totally up to you, as it should be. 🙂 🙂
So for the first few weeks I did some of their training and some of their videos. I also built websites proving to me that their process works. You can do the same. Once I saw that their approach works for me, I upgraded to premium account which is worth every cent. I did not upgrade immediately from starter to premium. I took full advantage of the free starter account, and then upgraded to premium when I was ready and not before. I upgraded to premium on February 21, 2015 and have been on paid premium membership every since. For me, full premium membership is worth every cent and more. 🙂 🙂
How to install WordPress and use it
My WordPress webhost has already installed WordPress, and granted me access to their website builder. I don’t have to worry about a pile of technical WordPress related things, I can immediately jump in and use their website builder so that I can use WordPress straight away.
Following are some brief notes on how to make your own website using the website builder provided by my WordPress webhost. At this stage, you will need an account with them, so if you have not got it yet, get it at the following link:
Once you have your free starter account, log in, you will see a drop down menu on the left hand side.
Select the Websites by clicking on it. Then a Websites Panel is displayed, select Site Builder.
Select Free Domain.
Then you will see a screen, that shows a few easy steps (Step 2, Step 3 and so on) as shown in the screen shot below.
Let us go through these few easy steps, one at a time. 🙂 🙂
The next question that needs answering, is to enter in a domain name. Key in something that makes sense to you and you might be able to grab that name if it is still available. If not, key in something different, until you find one that is still available. In this context, the name is yoursite.siterubix.com, where yoursite is the name you selected which has not yet been grabbed. 🙂 🙂
In this example, I entered “enterwebsitename”. As it was available, the “available” icon is displayed as shown in the screen shot below.
Going to the next question, which is to name the website. Sometimes people put in the full domain here, or just simply what the website is about. You could put in a short marketing catchphrase. If you can not think of anything fast, put in something like “My Awesome Website”. This can be easily changed afterwards so I recommend that you put in a temporary statement and change it later if you want to.
For this example, I entered “My Awesome Website”. as shown in the screen shot below.
The next thing to do is to choose a design for your website.
Choose a design that you like from the list displayed. In this example, I selected “Hiero” as shown in the following screen shot. Don’t worry if this design is not available, just select one from the list that you are happy with.
Next, a ‘confirmation’ screen is displayed, showing your answers. You just click on the “Build my webSite” button as shown below. Once you click on this, your website is built and you will be able to access your website on the net.
A “hold tight, building website” message is displayed. You also see a few information screens as different stages of the building website process is performed. Then a built website message is displayed. The website is now built.
In conclusion, this post very clearly and very concisely shows you how to install WordPress and use it requirement. You work smart. You bypass installing WordPress on your computer. You bypass installing WordPress with your webhost. You use a WordPress webhost that specializes in this area. This allows you to move away from the technical aspects associated with WordPress including the technical aspects associated with the underlying database. This gets you faster to the process of writing real content for your website, which is a real win win situation for you.
I recommend that you follow the approach mentioned above and then you will very quickly see that this approach works. 🙂 🙂
Even if you already host your WordPress site with a webhost and you are a technical WordPress guru, I suggest that you try out the approach mentioned above because you may find like me that it is a much better way to build WordPress websites. It is a lot better than coding a website from scratch and has a lot of functionally built in. 🙂 🙂
