.FORUM Domains Available: Great for Online Forum Sites?

Are .FORUM domains great for online forum websites? .FORUM domains are very expensive to register or renew when compared with .COM domains. I don’t see why.

.FORUM Domains Are Now Available

.FORUM domains are now available since March 2nd 2021. These are domain names ending with the top domain level extension of .FORUM

A .FORUM domain could be an asset to your organisation if your organisation hosts a forum related website. This is ideal for websites that want to host a forum on the web. However currently domains using this extension are very expensive.

What immediately comes to my mind are a few very popular forum related websites:

The .FORUM domain extension was not available when the above organisations started up.

.FORUM Domains Are Expensive

To register or renew a .FORUM domain is way more expensive that the usual .COM or .ORG domain name.

In September 2021, the recommended retail price to register a .COM domain is $14.79 for the first year, then the recommended retail price to renew a .COM domain is $14.79 per year.

In September 2021, the recommended retail price to register a .FORUM  domain is $1800.00 for the first year, then the recommended retail price to renew a .FORUM domain is $1800.00 per year.

From March 2nd 2021 to December 31st 2021 23:55 UTC, Domain Cost Club Members can register a .FORUM domain for $500 for the first year, then the price to renew a .FORUM domain is $1000 per year.

By the way in September 2021, Domain Cost Club Members can register a .COM domain for $8.39 for the first year, then the price to renew a .COM domain is $8.39 per year.

In my opinion, this makes the .FORUM extension exclusive for organisations with deep pockets and even then, why would such an organisation spend this amount on registering or renewing a domain name?

It is of course to do with branding and good business reasons. But, are these reasons important enough to spend that amount of money on “just” registering or renewing a domain name?

According to Domain Name Stats on April 14th 2021, there were 260 domains in the .FORUM cohort. On September 13th 2021, there were 298 domains in this group.

It will be interesting over the next while to see how the .FORUM extension does. There are many other different domain extensions available today where you have a lot of choice.

Discussion

Having a .FORUM  domain name may be a good way to make your forum related website to be more visible to the world, both offline and online.

I say “may be” because at the moment in March 2021, the .FORUM domain extension has only been available for a few short weeks.

I also don’t see yet why the .FORUM domain extension is so expensive when compared with the extremely popular .COM domain extension.

It is going to take this domain extension some time for it to gain momentum and brand recognition. It will be interesting to see how many of the already established online forums register a .FORUM domain name in the next while.

Anyway the .FORUM extension makes it much clearer that the website is a forum related website.

Domain Cost Club sells domain names and website hosting at really good prices to members. I use them. I joined as a member in late 2014.
All of my domains were transferred over to them by the middle of 2015. They are my preferred domain supplier since then. I wrote a detailed review which you will find here.
If you purchase domains, I recommend you visit Domain Cost Club and buy a membership. Then you can buy domains using very good pricing. You can also optionally buy hosting for the domains you have registered with Domain Cost Club.
To learn more about Domain Cost Club or to see if the domain name you want is still available, I recommend you visit Domain Cost Club. I may earn if you purchase a Domain Cost Club membership using this link.
