Hey there, I am David and I have been into domain names for some time now.
This is what this post covers:-
I brought my first domain name back in 2002 and I have maintained that domain name ever since. I currently have a number of active domain names registered. All of them are registered now using my preferred domain name registrar.
I purchased this particular .COM domain name (workfromhomenotes.com) back in August 2005 and have maintained it ever since as noted in the following screenshot:
You may have also noticed that its domain registrar is Domain Cost Club – My preferred Domain Name Registrar of choice.
Compared to my last domain name register, who charges $9.99 per domain name per year for privacy services, I am saving this sum per domain name per year for privacy services alone.
I also save money on each domain name that I have registered and/or renewed using my Domain Cost Club Membership. I explore and compare actual pricing in my review of Domain Cost Club.
Each domain name should have an active website associated with it
In my opinion, each and every domain name should have an active website associated with it.
Each domain name of mine at the present time has an active website associated with it.
No point I say, in having it gathering dust by parking it and hoping to flip it for big money which is something that some people do and do well. Here are some examples of flipping domain names:
- Zoom may have spent $2 million for Zoom.com
- Elon Musk may have spent $11 million for tesla.com
If those domain names were flipped for those prices, flipping domain names sounds like a good idea. Registering and renewing domain names hoping to flip them later on sounds like a “long game” for me without knowing if you are going to be able to flip any of them for “big money” later on. That sounds to me to be “very risky”. If adapting this approach, make sure that you have an alternative way of making money.
For me, a domain name must have an active website against it with real live people visiting it and finding the content top notch. For me, this is the primary reason for owning and maintaining domain names along with the associated websites themselves.
Of course, other people make good money in flipping domain names. To each their own is what I say.
Over the last number of years I have lost count of the number of domain names I registered/renewed. Each one when registered/renewed by me would have had an active website associated with it.
So as you can see, I have been a bit of a serial “domain name guy” over the past last number of years and there is no end in sight!
No way am I going to pay full retail price for a domain name now nor for any related service, for like instance, privacy domain services. I would have paid the full retail price for each of these domain names (registering/renewing them) in the past.
Enough is enough.
This is no longer the case. Since the end of April 2015, the domain name I have since 2002 is now registered by me using Domain Cost Club as the domain name registrar, prior to that I used different domain name registrars as Domain Cost Club was not around when I was registering domain names earlier.
I no longer pay full retail price for any of the domain names I own, now or in the future. Happy days.
Introducing the Domain Cost Club option
I am a Domain Cost Club member which allows me to buy my domain names via my Domain Cost Club membership using At-Cost Pricing. This is the EXACT same price that domain registrar’s pay. This saves me money which appeals to me. Why pay more for domains and related services than you have to? I explore and compare actual pricing in my review of Domain Cost Club.
The member’s area inside Domain Cost Club has a fresh modern feel to it which I find very refreshing, and very easy to use and also very easy to find things.
As well as the very familiar domain name extensions like .COM, .NET and .ORG being part of a small limited set of domain name extensions, a large number of new domain name extensions are now available and over the next while, more and more of these will become available.
New domain extensions like .GURU, .NINJA, .GLOBAL, .SCIENCE, .PARTY, .DANCE and many more are adding options for you when registering or renewing domain names assuming of course that your domain register offers these new domain extensions in their offers to you. My last one did not allow me to register a .SITE domain back in 2015 however Domain Cost Club did. Just saying. 🙂
A very worthwhile journey
To me, building a domain name business working from home is a very worthwhile journey. It is also an excellent lifestyle choice.
In the domain name business and in the affiliate marketing business, there is no stock to manage, there is no stock to buy and there is no stock to sell. Talk about the perfect businesses.
In other businesses, people sometimes have stock that they cannot always sell. That hurts.
If you are in the affiliate marketing business, you may as well register and renew your domain names using Domain Cost Club’s at-cost pricing model, as you are spending money on this anyway as well as take advantage of their referral program. Commission values noted in the following table:
|Membership Type||Annual Membership Price||Referral Commission|
Domain Cost Club also pay the same rates for renewals of Domain Cost Club memberships.
