Getting domains using At-Cost pricing

Once you buy a Domain Cost Club membership package, you can buy domains via your Domain Cost Club Membership using special at-cost pricing. Membership packages are tiered so that people who buy or renew five or less domains per year can also be included. Lite membership costs a mere $9.99 per year and allows you to buy or renew five or less domain names per year.

Of course, all prices mentioned in this post may change in the future. For this reason, I recommend visiting Domain Cost Club for the current details.

Prices as on July 29th 2015

Domain Cost Club Members pay $7.85 per .COM domain per year.

Domain Cost Club Members pay $7.54 per .NET domain per year.

New top level domain extensions are becoming available all the time. Some very special current offerings include:

Domain Cost Club Members pay $12.00 per .SITE domain for the first year, then $20.00 per year.

Domain Cost Club Members pay $0.25 per .REVIEW domain for the first year, then $19.98 per year.

The recommended price is more than the price that Domain Cost Club Members pay, usually at least double.

Let’s do some calculations

How much does it cost you with your current domain name registrar for the following:
a) The cost of domain name registration for the year.
b) The cost of privacy services for the year.
c) Do this for each of the domain names, to come up with a figure.
Remember to compare like with like.

How much would it cost you with Domain Cost Club for the following:
a) The cost of registration for the year.
b) The cost of privacy services for the year.
c) Do this for each of the domain names, to come up with a figure.
Remember to compare like with like.
d) The cost of Domain Cost Club Membership per year.

I did these calculations for 4 .COM domains which require privacy registration services.

With my previous domain name registrar, I would pay $9.99 per .COM domain per year plus another $7.95 per .COM domain per year for privacy registration services, coming to $17.94 per .COM domain. With 4 .COM domains, this would come to $71.76 per year.

With Domain Cost Club, I would pay $7.85 per .COM domain per year plus another $0.00 for privacy registration services, coming to $7.85 per .COM domain. With 4 .COM domains, this would come to $31.40 per year. Then the mere $9.99 cost of annual Lite Domain Cost Club membership has to be added as well as processing fees when applicable as clearly shown in the following table:

Description My previous domain name registrar prices Domain Cost Club prices
Domain registration for one year for four .COM domains $39.96 $31.40
Domain privacy services for one year for four .COM domains  $31.80 $0.00
ICANN fee for one year for four .COM domains Absorbed $0.72
Payment processing fee Unsure $1.57
Annual Lite Domain Cost Club Membership for one year Not Applicable $9.99
Payment processing fee on the membership fee Not Applicable $0.50
Total cost to registrar four .COM domains with domain privacy services $71.76 $44.18
With just four .COM domain names including the cost of membership Domain Cost Club is way more cost effective. That is a whopping saving of $27.58 for four .COM domain names with domain privacy services. Sure pays to shop around. 🙂

So on the basis of only four .COM domains, the cost of Domain Cost Club Membership does pay off at the end of the year for .COM domain purchases with domain privacy services.

Top level domain extensions provide additional choice

However, .COM is only one of many top level domain extensions sold by Domain Cost Club. For example .SITE was released earlier this month on July 15th 2015.

Lets assume I want 4 .SITE domains which require domain privacy registration services.

I decided to see how much my previous domain name registrar would charge if I wanted to purchase .SITE domains. I discovered to my horror and to my utter surprise, that their interface would not quote me for a .SITE domain. It kept suggesting other domain extension names, however no way would it allow me to buy a .SITE domain.

As my sources in the industry inform me that the recommended retail price is $38.00 per .SITE domain. I will assume for the sake of this comparison that my previous domain registrar will charge $38.00 per .SITE domain when they get around to adding this new extension to their systems. Their domain privacy registration services cost $7.95 per domain name per year so we assume that this fee will be the same. These assumptions may or may not pan out in the future.

Description My previous domain name registrar prices (Assumptions made) Domain Cost Club prices
Domain registration for one year for four .SITE domains $152.00 $48.00
Domain privacy services for one year for four .SITE domains $31.80 $0.00
ICANN fee for one year for four .SITE domains Absorbed $0.72
Payment processing fee Unsure $2.40
Annual Lite Domain Cost Club Membership for one year Not Applicable $9.99
Payment processing fee on the membership fee Not Applicable $0.50
Total cost to registrar five .COM domains with domain privacy services $183.80 $61.61
With just four .SITE domain names including the cost of membership Domain Cost Club is way more cost effective. That is a whopping saving of $122.19 for four .SITE domain names with domain privacy services. Sure pays to shop around. 🙂

So on the basis of only four .SITE domains, the cost of Domain Cost Club Membership does pay off at the end of the year for .SITE domain purchases with domain privacy services, bearing in mind the assumptions already mentioned above.

Oh, by the way, if your current domain registrar does not allow you to registrar .SITE domain names and you want to registrar one or more .SITE domain names, I recommend you get your .SITE domain names today at Domain Cost Club. You can not afford to wait, because if you do, someone else may buy the .SITE domain names you are interested in. You never know. This may also be the case with other top level extension names released in the last while.
