Amazon Native Shopping Ads Not Showing

Amazon Native Shopping Ads Not Showing

Amazon native shopping ads not showing on your website are a nuisance at best and troublesome at worst.

I discovered that there can be a number of reasons for this. Furthermore I found it difficult to find out exactly why this is the case.

Some time back I had no issues with my Amazon Native Shopping Ads showing up on my website. However I did notice that they were not showing up after a while.

By then, there had been a number of changes at my website. Any one of which or a combination could have led to this.

WordPress had been updated. I had changed my WordPress Theme to the GeneratePress Theme.

The WordPress Plugins I was using may have been updated. I was using different WordPress Plugins. Any of these things could have potentially conflicted and prevented my Amazon Native Shopping Ads from showing.

At the time, I did some research however did not discover the real reason why this occurred for me.

I simply replaced my Amazon native shopping ads with other types of Amazon ads.

I really like the idea of Amazon native shopping ads as it allowed, when it worked, applicable ads to be displayed on my website.

Time for Another Look

In June 2021, I had another look at this. This time, I believe that I discovered the underlying reason why this is the case for me.

My conclusion is that the Amazon Native Shopping Ads show only if the web visitor is based in the United States. I assume that Amazon use the web visitor’s IP address to determine location.

I am based outside of the United States and so do not see them.

Here’s how I came to this conclusion:

Look at the Applicable Amazon FAQ Page

Amazon have a FAQ for Native Shopping Ads: General page. This page contains a lot of information and needs to be studied in some detail. The following question and answer caught my attention:

Do Native Shopping Ads display products based on the geographical location of your visitor?

The ad unit currently shows products only from Amazon.com and does not display a different set of products based on geography. If you would like to serve Native Shopping Ads for visitors only in the US then we suggest you use an ad server which can support this need.

Amazon’s FAQ for Native Shopping Ads: General page.

Some time back, I seem to remember that the ad unit displayed was associated with the nearest Amazon.

In my case, I used to see products from Amazon.co.uk, not from Amazon.com, now I see nothing.

There are at least two other questions and answers on that Amazon FAQ page that might explain this.

In my case, they do not, however your case might be different:

  1. I am unable to see the ad unit after placing the ad code on my page. Why?
  2. I see the ad unit showing up in some pages and not showing up in others. Why is that?

You can refer to the applicable Amazon FAQ Page for their answers to these questions. And to refer to the other questions and answers on that page.

Look at GeneratePress.com’s Help Forum

GeneratePress.com develop and support a great WordPress Theme. They also have a great support forum. The following comments in this support forum caught my attention:

I also reached out to Amazon who advised that they have paused native ads in the UK. So this is what’s causing them not to show for me.
