3 Hints on Choosing a Good Domain Name for SEO

Choosing a good domain name for Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is important for your domain name. A lot of time and effort can go into choosing a good domain name for SEO and for other purposes.

Here I came up with 3 hints. No doubt there are more which is why I encourage readers to leave any related comments and feedback at the end of this article. I assume that the domain names you are considering do not infringe copyright or trade marks belonging to others.

Hint 1 … Choose a .COM domain name

Although the new top level domain names are available and my understanding is that the search engines do not look at the top level domain name, domains ending with the now very familiar .COM have more credibility with people than those that do not.

This will change over the next while as the new top level domain names are being rolled out and people become more familiar with them. However in the meantime, your domain name still has to perform.

For the moment, focus on a domain name ending with .COM unless you have a good reason to do otherwise.

However protect your medium term interest and your long term interests and also look at domain names ending with alternatives. It may be an idea to register those domain names now, before someone else grabs the domain names you are interested in.

There is nothing stopping you from purchasing those domain names today and leaving them parked for potential future use. You do not want your competition from obtaining those domain names. You can obtain your domain name at cost if you are a Domain Cost Club Member. See our review of Domain Cost Club here.

The new domain extension names are becoming more mainstream, more familiar and more acceptable. So as more time goes by, it is very likely that the new domain extension names will become popular so this hint although valid at the time of writing this, may become outdated very quickly.

.COM domain names accounted for over 40% of the domain name business in 2020.

Hint 2 … Avoid using dashes in the domain name

There is some debate in the online world on this, however in my opinion, using dashes in the domain name itself should just be avoided as it just looks wrong. It just does not look right. Oh and also avoid using numbers in the domain name itself.

Hint 3 … The domain name should be brand-able and as short as possible

With the domain name being brand-able, it allows you to focus on building the brand. With it being short, catchy and easy to spell, it is less likely that someone may misspell it when entering the domain name in a browser. If the domain name is really long, it is likely that people will misspell it when entering the domain name in a browser.

After determining a domain name or domain names, you need to register them.

OK, what do you do now?

Good question. You become a Domain Cost Club Member in order to buy domains using At-Cost pricing. The domain business worldwide is huge. The new domain extension names are becoming more mainstream, more familiar and more acceptable.

If you are a Domain Cost Club Member, you would enjoy At-Cost Domain pricing for the domains you purchase via Domain Cost Club. You would also have the ability to earn money on referrals. Now is a great time to become a Domain Cost Club Member. Talk about being in the right place at the right time.

Domain Cost Club sells domain names and website hosting at really good prices to members. I use them. I joined as a member in late 2014.
All of my domains were transferred over to them by the middle of 2015. They are my preferred domain supplier since then. I wrote a detailed review which you will find here.
If you purchase domains, I recommend you visit Domain Cost Club and buy a membership. Then you can buy domains using very good pricing. You can also optionally buy hosting for the domains you have registered with Domain Cost Club.
To learn more about Domain Cost Club or to see if the domain name you want is still available, I recommend you visit Domain Cost Club. I may earn if you purchase a Domain Cost Club membership using this link.
